Control on tobacco

The Danish Safety Technology Authority supervises tobacco for sale in Denmark.

Type of control

The Danish Safety Technology Authority will control whether the tobacco has been reported correctly and meets the specific rules in force. The control secures that only reported products are marketed and that products, which have not been reported, will be withdrawn from the market. The control will also include the requirement that herbal products for smoking must be reported and that new categories of tobacco must be notified before they can be market in this country.

Both document control and physical control visits will be made with manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers, who market tobacco or herbal smoking products. Some tobacco products will also be collected for testing in external laboratories.

The Danish Safety Technology Authority has the right to get all the necessary information related to the control.

Marketing ban

In cases where a product may pose a serious risk to human health, the Danish Safety Technology Authority may require the product being withdrawn from the market or recalled from the consumers.

If the control shows that a product has not been notified properly or does not meet the rules in force on labelling, quality and security, the Danish Safety Technology Authority may ban the marketing of the product.
